About the Foundation

Joey’s Journey Foundation was created to enrich the lives of children walking the rocky path of cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Our mission is simple. With donations, Joey’s Journey will grant wishes, raise awareness and fund research to help families fighting pediatric cancer.

Meet the Board

Jennifer & John Beahrs

Founders

Jennifer and John are dedicated parents to Jack and Joey. Driven by their family’s journey, they have made it their lifelong mission to support parents, siblings, and children fighting childhood cancer.

Devin Riley

Vice President

Devin’s connection to the Beahrs family spans over 30 years; his wife, Valerie, and Jennifer have been close friends since the 4th grade! Today, Devin and Valerie’s three children carry on that tradition as great friends with Jack and Joey. Particularly Donovan, who is the same age as Joey. Professionally, Devin serves as a Master Training Specialist and COO at a private health and fitness company.

Craig Heathcoat

Treasurer

Craig is a longtime family friend married to John’s cousin, Leigh Ann, and has known Joey since he was just a few months old. Whether they are tearing up the go-kart track together or Craig is giving him some sound advice, Craig loves spending quality time with Joey and Jack. Professionally, Craig works as a Financial Analyst.

Rita Chreist

Secretary

Rita is a dear friend, neighbor, and mother to one of Joey’s very first childhood buddies, Will. The two have been inseparable since they were toddlers! Married to Eric, Rita brings her experience in management and sales to support the board’s mission. Rita and Eric are always on “board” to help out!

Karen Schmiegel

Member-at-Large

Karen and Andy, became close friends with the Beahrs when their son, Joey, was in Joey Beahrs’ kindergarten class. The two boys quickly became known as “Joey S.” and “Joey B.” if you hear one called with their last initial, then the other is never far behind…Nicky, twin of Joey S. also! Professionally, Karen works as an IT Audit Manager.

Jack Beahrs

Youth Ambassador & Board Member

Jack is Jennifer and John’s eldest son and a pillar of strength for his family. Having walked alongside his brother Joey throughout his battle, Jack brings deep perspective, resilience, and compassion to the foundation’s mission. Currently a senior at Butler University majoring in Risk Management and Finance, Jack combines his personal experience with analytical skills to advocate for siblings and help build a sustainable future for the organization.
